Demolition of the Bedouin village of Umm al-Hira

I have been contacted by constituents regarding the demolition of the Bedouin village of Umm al-Hiran in Israel.

I recognise the concerns that have been raised by a number of organisations about the demolition of this village and I am aware that demolition activity commenced on 18 January 2017.

My colleagues in the Shadow Foreign Office team have raised this matter directly with the Government. I also understand that the Government has raised concerns about Umm al-Hiran with the Israeli Ambassador, and the UK Embassy in Tel Aviv continues to raise concerns on the issue of demolitions with Israeli authorities.

I am concerned about the recent reports of violence in Umm al-Hiran and I hope a solution that meets the needs and respects the rights of the people affected can be found. The Government has called on the Israeli authorities and Bedouin community to work together in this regard, and for this to include a robust planning process that adequately consults and addresses the needs of Israel's Bedouin communities.
