Happy Diwali

On 3rd November 2013, followers of the Hindu, Jain and Sikh faiths in Ilford will be celebrating Diwali – the festival of lights. Each year, Mike Gapes, the Member of Parliament for Ilford South joins his constituents in celebrating this festival.

Commenting on the festival, Mike said: “In the coming days Hindus, Jains and Sikhs, here in my constituency and around the world, will be celebrating the auspicious occasion of Diwali – the festival of lights. This is a celebration when members of some of the world’s oldest and youngest religions celebrate the triumph of good over evil and the victory of knowledge over ignorance.”

He further added: “It is also a time for reflection. I will be joining my constituents over the coming days to mark this wonderful occasion and reflect on our joint accomplishments. We can all look forward with hope and optimism to everything that we can achieve by working together in the year ahead.”

“I wish all those celebrating a Happy Diwali and Saal Mubarak (Happy New Year).”
