An apology and Jafar quits

I have now received the apology below sent to me by Mohammed Azam on behalf of Redbridge countering extremism and Islamophobia.

Statement of Apology to Mike Gapes MP
Saturday 24 January 2009

Redbridge Countering Extremism and Islamophobia would like to apologise to Mike Gapes MP for the inclusion of his name as a guest speaker in publicity for a youth debate with out his prior consent and permission.

Abdurahman Jafar, the person leading on this piece of work for the organisation has accepted this was due to an oversight on his part and has stepped down as Director. The organisation reviewed the mechanisms for publicity and has tightened its controls in relation to organising further debates to ensure that such an error does not occur in the future.

Mike Gapes has been supportive of the organisation’s work since its inception and we hope to continue to maintain a good relationship with him as well as other local political representatives.
