Council Leader Jas Athwal together with local MPs Mike Gapes and Wes Streeting have written an open letter to Jeremy Hunt, Secretary of State for Health calling on him to formally state that he will reverse the decision to close A&E at King George’s Hospital.
‘Jeremy Hunt’s election stunt visit to Redbridge stating that King George A&E would stay open for the ‘foreseeable future’ has left us in a position of uncertainty about the future of this service. Jeremy Hunt’s statement clearly has no meaning as NHS colleagues are still working towards the original Conservative Government decision for its closure’ stated Cllr Athwal.
‘Our already challenged health services in Redbridge do not need this Tory game-playing with a much valued and important service. Jeremy Hunt must formally reverse the closure decision his Conservative predecessor made now’ added the Council Leader.
