Mike Gapes is re-elected as MP for Ilford South

I am very grateful to my constituents for re-electing me as their local Member of Parliament and also humbled by the scale of our victory.

My team which was so ably organised by my agent achieved the best result ever for Labour in Ilford South. My vote increased from 25,301 (49.42%) in 2010 to 33,232 (64.02%) in 2015. The Labour Party's majority over the Conservative candidate went up from 11,287 to 19,777.

Labour also had a fantastic result with the victory of Wes Streeting in Ilford North. But elsewhere in most of England and Wales and especially in Scotland it was a very bad result for Labour and we must take time to listen and analyse the reasons and renew ourself under a new leadership.

I pledge to continue to work hard to protect and defend the interests of all my constituents whether or not they voted for me and to speak out on local, national and international issues.

I can be contacted via mike.gapes.mp@parliament.uk or through my website at www.mikegapes.org
