Ilford South MP, Mike Gapes, today attended a street surgery and met with concerned residents and businesses to hear plans by the police and the council’s enforcement team to tackle prostitution on Ilford Lane.
Mike Gapes MP joined Margaret Hodge, MP for Barking, and Councillors from both Redbridge and Barking & Dagenham Councils, and Senior Police officers including tri-borough commander, Jason Gwillim.
Mike Gapes MP said: “This has been a long running issue which has become much worse in recent months, partly due to cuts to local funding of police. Local residents are pleading for something to be done. I support their calls for tougher action and a stronger police presence on Ilford Lane and nearby streets, and other action to reduce this problem and crack down on the criminal gangs behind it."
He further added: “I was encouraged by the discussions and plans set out by the Police and will be monitoring future action."
