Mike Gapes slams the PM's hostility to the ECJ & ask how she will protect Brits abroad

Watch Mike Gapes question Prime Minister Theresa May how she will protect UK citizens in the EU.

Mike Gapes (Labour/Co-operative, Ilford South): The Prime Minister has made clear her hostility to the European Court of Justice. What will happen to British citizens living in other EU countries if they are not protected by the Court? Will they become citizens of nowhere?

Theresa May (The Prime Minister): As regards the jurisdiction of courts in the United Kingdom, I have made it clear that we should not be subject to the European Court of Justice and that EU citizens’ rights here should be protected in a different way. I believe that one of the things that people voted for when they voted to leave the European Union was for the ECJ not to have jurisdiction here in the United Kingdom.
