Mike shares views on the ongoing conflict and humanitarian situation in Yemen

I have been contacted by constituents concerned about the ongoing conflict and humanitarian situation in Yemen.

The people of Yemen have suffered so much throughout this conflict and the humanitarian situation in many parts of the country is extremely dire. Indeed, the UN has estimated that over 18 million people are in need of humanitarian support, and has warned that several million people are at risk of famine this year.

There have been several recent debates and parliamentary inquiries. I am a member of the Foreign Affairs committee which published a detailed report and recommendations in September 2016. I also spoke in a debate which you can watch here.

Yemen urgently needs a ceasefire, a political settlement, and food aid. This crisis will only be ended through peace talks and these must be the priority for everyone. I can assure my constituents that I will continue to follow this issue very closely.
