Ilford South MP Mike Gapes visited the Goodmayes Branch of Ladbrokes last Friday (4 May 2012) to receive a winning cheque for £200 as a donation to the homeless charity Shelter.
Mike had won the money for the charity by placing a £25 bet last month predicting that West Ham United would beat Leicester City 2-1 at odds of 8-1.
Life long Hammers fan and season ticket holder Mike said
I was delighted to receive the invitation from Ladbrokes. But as I was unable to visit them on Grand National day their Area Branch Manager Greg Boal kindly said I could go the following week and make an alternative bet for charity. I decided to split the £50 into two bets on West Ham to win at Leicester 3-0 and 2-1. Fortunately one of my bets was successful. I am doubly pleased as the Hammers won and Shelter will get £200 from Ladbrokes.
