On June 23, you will be asked to choose: should Britain remain a member of the European Union, or should we leave? You will decide our country’s future. I want to set out why I believe Britain remaining in Europe is the right choice for our country.
We are more prosperous inside the European Union. Three million British jobs are linked to trade with Europe. The EU single market is the biggest and best place to do business in the world. Companies from all over the world come to London, invest in our country and employ British people because we are in the EU.
Rights like minimum paid holiday, paid maternity and paternity leave, rights for agency workers and equal pay for men and women are guaranteed because Britain is in the EU.If we leave, all those rights could be ripped apart by a future right wing Conservative government.
We are more influential and secure as part of the European Union. Britain’s influence in the world is strongest as part of the EU. All other Commonwealth countries including India, Pakistan, Australia and Canada, and allies like the USA want us to remain in the EU.
British achievements like the European Arrest Warrant help us tackle cross-border crime and bring terrorists to justice. If we leave, Britain would be less safe. If we leave the European Union there is no going back.
I am voting for Britain to remain in Europe because I believe it is in the best interests of my constituents, their families, children and grandchildren. But this isn’t just my choice – it’s yours too. That’s why I’m asking you to vote to Remain in Europe on June 23.
