Redbridge Local elections Labour wins from Totries and Liberals

I attended the count for the Redbridge Council elections at Redbridge Town Hall this afternoon and evening. It was a great result for Labour with an increase of 11 in the Labour Group to 26 councillors. The Conservatives are down to 30 out of 63 in the borough , and the Lib Dems crashed  to just 7 councillors in total. For the first time ever Labour has councillors in all 9 Ilford South wards including a stunning victory to come from third place to defeat the  Lib Dems in Chadwell, and also defeating the Lib Dems in Clementswood and Goodmayes and the Tories in Mayfield. We also saw off the Lib Dem challenge in Valentines and won a councillor from the Tories in Cranbrook for the first time ever. There was also good news in Ilford North where Labour won seats in Aldborough and Clayhall and the BNP were defeated in Hainault  as Labour pushed back to a close second to the Tories. Redbridge is now a "hung council". All the former councillors and their friends who defected to the Lib Dems were resoundingly defeated by Labour. The Greens and UKIP failed to make any headway. OVerall Labour in Ilford South and Redbridge had a very successful result.
