    Save King George hospital

Unelected and unaccountable NHS bureaucrats have been trying to close A&E and maternity services at King George Hospital since at least 2006.

There is little, if any support, for these proposals within Redbridge and the neighbouring boroughs and the campaign against the closures and transfer of services to Queens Hospital, Romford has widespread backing.

Despite this, and the often inadequate services provided at Queen’s, in October 2011 Andrew Lansley, the Conservative Secretary of State for Health, agreed to the closure of A&E and maternity services at King George Hospital.

This will mean Ilford’s residents will no longer have easy access to high quality health care locally. Because of this, I have fully supported the campaigns to keep services at King George Hospital.

In 2009, I produced a special report for my constituents showing how the plans will affect people living in Ilford and I also raised the matter in parliament in November 2009, October 2010, June 2011, and November 2011. My submission to the Independent Review Panel set up by Andrew Lansley to review the proposed changed is also on my website.

I will continue to work for accessible, good quality local healthcare for Ilford’s residents and support the campaign to keep A&E and maternity services at King George Hospital.
