Mike Gapes recently attended the Silver Star Parliamentary Launch of ‘Stay Healthy During Ramadan’ diabetes campaign on Thursday 19th June at the House of Commons.
The event was a tremendous success, with over 100 GPs, health professionals, Health and Wellbeing board members, community pharmacists, local government representatives and Members of Parliament participating in the launch.
The campaign aims to raise awareness about the potential risks for Muslim diabetics wishing to observe Ramadan. Diabetic Muslims who fast are at additional risk of both hypoglycaemia and hyperglycaemia. The Stay Healthy During Ramadan Roadshow has began visiting mosques in 7 cities across the UK including Bradford, Birmingham, Cardiff, Leicester, London, Manchester and Rotherham to target Britain’s nearly three million Muslim population.
